Holy flying mongoose Batman!!! What an amazing show! I had wanted to see Patrick since exactly a year prior when I first heard him. My partner had seen him twice before (once solo) so we weren't really sure how the show was gonna go about.
I can't express how awesome this show was. He played an epic set because it was the last show promoting The Bachelor album and as a result he played almost every song off it. He also played a bunch from his first 3 albums too. Not only that but he played a new song (Wild Life) which he claims has only been done once before. It was super fun and dancy and I'm looking forward to a studio version as this recording doesn't do it justice. Not only did he play an epic set but he extended a bunch of the songs too and generally played around with the arrangements a little.
I haven't done a list yet but this will be in my top 3 gigs of the year. Will be at his next show with bells on.

Dick Diver @ The East Brunswick Club (2009-12-04)
Been looking forward to this for some time now. Dick Diver are
clearly a band I'm very interested in and I'd wanted to get my hands on
the EP for a few months. I did and it came in the form of a 7"+CD
package. It's really good and you should all get it. Also, where is On
The Bank!? Why would they leave this song off the EP?
Given that Dick Diver are new and also the fact it was an EP launch I thought to myself 'how will they have enough material to fill a headliners spot?': unfortunately, I don't think they did. They played a smaller set than I had imagined they would and omitted some songs which should have been played (Miichael Jackson, Future Self, Interstate Forever and Princes come to mind). I'm not trying to take anything away from them the set they played was great. The new song (to me) Time Life Life was really good and I can't wait to hear some more new ones. The Creedence Clearwater cover was pretty cool although I spent the whole song trying to work out what they were playing.
The band were super happy to be playing the show and I don't blame them. They managed to pull a really good crowd and I imagine they gained a lot of new fans because of it. I wish nothing but the best for them from here on in.
Setlist:
1. Flying Tea Towel Blues
2. Purgatory
3. Walk For Room
4. Time Life Life
5. The Keys
6. Through The D
7. Biffo
8. On The Bank
9. Tender Years

Mammal @ The Espy (2009-10-17)
So, this could be potentially Mammals last gig and to tell you the truth. I don't fell they went out on a high. Don't get me wrong they put on a good show. But it just wasn't a headliners set. Which it should have been. And as a result, it has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth for Mammal. As always, it was good to hear Push & Shove live again... and the intro Jam has evolved a little

The Bronx @ Billboard The Venue (2009-09-13)
I can't believe how awesome these guys are live. Totally blow me away every time. Very solid set with a lot of old songs. Only complaint is the lack of Enemy Mind and Ocean of Class. But in all honesty: I am being a little picky. I can't think of anything negative to say about The Bronx's performance.
The crowd on the other hand.. biggest pile of asses ever. Bogan city. With no respect for anyone else around them. We were a fair way back to avoid rowdyness but the people around us decided not to be cool. Pushing and all that jazz. Then some idiot decided to sit on the bar/bench thing in front of us for 3 songs. So I went all rebel and swiftly picked up and threw a (plastic) glass at him. He didn't care :(
Setlist:
1. Intro
2. Heart Attack American
3. Past Lives
4. Shitty Future
5. White Tar
6. Six Days A Week
7. Stop The Bleeding
8. Rape Zombie
9. They Will Kill Us All (Without Mercy)

Mammal @ The Pelly Bar (2009-07-11)
Another solid show from Mammal. As with the show the week prior I was still a little sick during this so I couldn't get into it as much as I'd like. Still, I had a great time. I got a spot first row in front of Pete because I wanted to try my hand at recording some more videos. I'm really glad I did too because during think my line-in to my i-river got disconnected and I lost the second half of the song. Luckily that was one of the songs I was videoing on my camera so I patched it with the audio from that. As a result I'm only missing the start of Clear Enough?
The setlist is a carbon copy of the show the week prior when you swap Slaves for Push & Shove. Both songs are awesome and both I haven't seen much before so they were very welcome.
Nagasaki had a few hiccups which was a bit entertaining. And the inciting jam with extra drummer was awesome too. I love getting guest appearances at Mammal shows.

Mammal @ The Corner Hotel (2009-07-03)
Oh man... I really didn't feel well at all and wanted to leave throughout most of this set. I would have aswell if it hadn’t been for the bouncer in front of me who seemed to know how shit I was feeling and to try and make things better for me. He did this by telling the bitch jumping into me every 5 seconds to stop.. when she didn’t he sent her away. By getting me a bottle of water when he saw me in discomfort and coughing a bit. And by keeping the general crowd around me pretty calm. Thanks heaps bouncer guy. You are seriously the best venue staff I’ve ever seen.
Now, the performance…. AWESOME! I think this is the tightest I’ve seen Mammal play. They sounded spot on. The new intro jam is pretty rocking. And it was great to see Push and Shove again. I think they should start to rotate an older song into every set. Would make things VERY interesting.
Tap dancing at a Mammal show works unbelievably well by the way. The most entertaining special guest appearance I’ve ever seen. Period. Just awesome.
Will be seeing them at least once (maybe twice) again on this tour. Hope that shows as good as this one.

Sydonia @ Ruby's Lounge (2009-05-29)
Supported by Newborn, Moniker Soul and Dive Into Ruin.
Sydonia were the only band I recorded on the night sorry. I did catch the second half of Newborns set and they were pretty good. I wouldn't mind checking them out again sometime in the future.
Sydonia
Firstly. Thanks to Sean for putting me on the guest list so I could record the show/his band. Coolest guy :)
Secondly. Wow! I am so impressed with Sydonia’s live show. It is phenomenal the sound they can create with what they have and I am consistently blown away by them. Quickly they are already emerging as one of my favourite bands to see live. I'm also liking the surprise new tracks in the set. The new album is already shaping up to be as good, if not better than the first. And that is saying a lot.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see these guys open for Mammal in a few weeks. Hopefully my microphone issues are fixed by then.
This was recorded pretty much as close to the left speaker stack as I could get. The first minute and a bit are in mono and there is a little crackling throughout. This was pretty much the end of my mics.
Setlist:
1. C13
2. Dream Kiss
3. Taste More
4. Elbow
5. 3 Tongues
6. Sinner
7. Rubber Bullet
8. Shame
9. Sorry
10. Bateria

Mammal @ Yah Yah's (2009-05-05)
Oh my god!! The best Mammal show I’ve seen by far. Very good mix of songs due to the ‘song out of a hat’ thing they had going which I strongly strongly insist they do at every show from now on. For the first time in a while the show didn't feel linear and didn’t follow the ‘safe’ setlist which has been of late: which made every song played exciting. Getting to hear Dionysian and Push & Shove finally was great too. And I’m still loving The Tempo and The Groove. Can’t wait until they kick out some other new songs too.
Irwin’s addition to Maker was pretty cool. It’s always great getting guests in on songs. And I think he nailed it. The Inciting rap by Zeke was awesome too.
However, my favorite part of the set went something like this:
“Zano’s choosing a song”
(pause)…
“what is it?”
long silent pause…
Zane busts into Think.. awesome style.
Setlist:
1. The Majority
2. The Aural Underground
3. Dionysian
4. Push & Shove
5. Maker w/ Irwin Thomas
6. Hollywood Shrine
7. Clear Enough?
8. Groove Junkie
9. Mr Devil
10. Slaves
11. Inciting
12. Two Soles
13. Nagasaki In Flames
14. Hell Yeah
15. The Tempo and The Groove
16. Think
17. Smash The Piñata

Mammal @ Chelsea Function Centre (2009-04-17)
I hadn’t seen Mammal in a while and even so I wasn’t really overly excited for this show. I knew it was going to be a stock setlist and sure enough it was. Only real suprise was the new song which I didn’t think I’d get. I think it saved the show for me. It’s a really good song and I’m looking forward to hearing more of it. Also, the end jam of Pinata was pretty rad too. I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t really like the material off The Majority. Living In Sin is the best song and they rarely do it live anymore.
Don’t get me wrong the guys played really well. They always do. I just think I’m getting over them a little.
Bad sides of the night included:
- kids who don’t know how to dance.
- kids who don’t know how to sing.
- MGMT - Kids (seriously, why play this at a rock show between sets?)
Highlights included:
- some 15 year old fingerbangin his g/f in the corner.
- the security guard eating a banana.
Setlist:
1. The Aural Underground
2. Nagasaki In Flames
3. Clear Enough?
4. Inciting
5. The Majority
6. The Tempo and The Groove
7. Hell Yeah
8. Maker
